Heather Scerba

Heather Scerba worked with Opal School third- and fourth-graders as a Coordinating Teacher in the Sitka Classroom.  She is a graduate of Kent State University, where she earned a bachelors of science degree in early childhood education.  Through her experiences as a student teacher in a third grade classroom in Cockle Bay, New Zealand, and as a preschool teacher at Evergreen Community School in Santa Monica, Heather experienced the power of school communities driven by a high degree of respect for the capacities of young children.  She was attracted to work at Opal by the school’s commitment to purposeful, transdisciplinary learning that builds on children’s natural strategies.
