Reggio Emilia

Here is an interesting short film about the schools in Reggio Emilia, created by Italians, wishing more schools in their country were using this approach! The voice over is in Italian the English translation is here: Download Reggio_English_YouTube_Doc.

Yesterday, Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith was here visiting along with a group of school board members and staff from the office of educational options. It was a wonderful whirlwind visit during which the conversation turned many times to the need for collaboration and dialogue between Opal and PPS teachers. Maybe it's a comfort that even in Reggio Emilia, where this educational project has been going on for decades and is widely recognized as one of the best in the world, there is a local struggle over how to integrate and collaborate.
